Mosaicoon: growth & funding of the leading italian media viral company

MOSAICOON headquartered in Palermo, Sicily, and with offices in Milan, Rome and London is one of the hottest italian startups in the online advertising space. Since its foundation in december 2009, the mission of the company has been to develop a new integrated model of digital communication through the realization of an innovative system of online advertising. The company founded by Ugo Parodi Giusino, has developed a unique communication model of advertising campaigns of web engagement through viral videos and is nowadays one of the few Italian companies specialized in the production, distribution and monitoring of viral campaigns with a network of more than 95 millions of users worldwide, offering companies an integrated online communication strategy by focusing on users and their brand perceptions. The company has a very advanced structure in terms of strategic know-how and creative thinking through its two proprietary software platforms (Plavid & Tracking) for the distribution and monitoring of viral campaigns, offering seeding and tracking services of contents produced externally, Video Marketing, Content and Social Media Marketing, Smartphone Applications, Interactive and Web Design.

The company has collected various prizes both at national as well as international level. 
In 2011 the company was mentioned among the 20 most innovative companies in Italy by the report "Fattore Internet" a report commissioned by Google to Boston Consulting Group; in 2012 the company won the prize as best Startup of the Year 2012 at the "national prize for innovation" promoted by the italian government and organized by PNI Cube as (the italian association which groups together italian incubators) and figured among the winners of the prize "Premio OK Italia 2012", promoted by the Unicredit Group. In the same year the company was awarded the "Bright Future Ideas Award, Vision for Growth" prize as company with best internationalization potential by UK Trade & Investment, the "Best Practices per l'innovazione" prize by Confindustria (main italian organization representing manufacturing and services companies), as well as the "Premio OK Italia 2012" prize of the Israeli Embassy, which was inserted the company among the 9 best european startups. In 2013 MOSAICOON it was selected by the Minister of Economic Development among the 10 finanlists to the competition "Premio Leonardo".

Founded in 2009 in Palermo (Sicily) , MOSAICOON received in 2010 an initial seed investment of 650.000 € by Vertis Venture fund, thus allowing the Viral Media Company to increase its workforce and to boost its revenues year by year. In the same year, MOSAICOON was transformed in joint-stock company with a 200.000 € fully paid up capital. By the end of 2011 the company had reached a turnover of 1.000.000 €, reaching the company break-even point.

In December 2012 there was a new investment round with lead-investor Vertis Venture committing itself for 600.000 € and co-investor Atlante Ventures Mezzogiorno with a financial commitment of 1.800.000 € bringing the total amount of the investment round to 2.400.000 €. The financial operation was assisted by Milan-based international law firm Bird&Bird.

In period 2011-2012 the company has conquered some of the leading international big spenders of the online advertising space, such as Telecom, MTV Italia, Vodafone, Microsoft, Algida, Credem, Renault, growth which allow the company to hire new employees reaching now a headcount of 30 employees (all under 35) and to generate a turnover of around 2 million euros.  MOSAICOON will now use the raised funding to boost its international expansion and for the development and launch of new services with high-tech impact. Thus the company is well-endowed with capital and human resources in order to compete in the market of viral ad-campaigns.
